April 10th, 2018
Dear Westmount Families, as you may be aware there is a movement on Social Media encouraging Canadians to wear a Hockey Jersey on Thursday as a sign of support for the many lives lost in the Humboldt Broncos tragedy.
Our Westmount School community can show their support by wearing a hockey jersey or Humboldt Bronco team colours of green/gold/black on Thursday, April 12th.
When times become difficult and tragedies happen, we unite to show our support and honour the victims and their families.. Teachers, will have an age appropriate conversation with their students to explain the connection of wearing a hockey jersey or team colours as our support for the families in Saskatchewan, Canada. At home, if you could also speak to your children, so that they understand that wearing a jersey on this day holds an entirely different meaning then our fun school spirit days.
We are all shocked and saddened by the terrible news of the Humboldt Broncos bus crash.
In response to this tragic event, flags at the Education Centre and Schools will be lowered to half-mast this week as our nation mourns the lives that were lost.
Our hearts go out to the Humboldt community and everyone impacted by this terrible tragedy.
